We enjoyed an amazing day trip crossing the Romanian border at the River Danube into the country of Bulgaria.  It was a beautiful day and our guide and driver (her son) did their best to show us some amazing sites in the short time we had in Bulgaria.  We began at the village of Arbanassi.  Arbanassi originally was home to Bulgaria's richest merchants due to trade privileges.  Afterwards, we drove to Tsarevets Fortress, seat of power for the Bulgarian state until the 15th century when the country was occupied by the Ottoman Turks.  Our final stop was Veliko Tarnovo, a medieval capital located on the hills above the Yantra River.  The kings who resided here built Tsarevets Fortress.  Click on the first image below to learn more about our time in Bulgaria.
