This was a very full day of game viewing; we left at sunrise and didn't return till 5:30P.  We started the day by using unpaved roads (S3/S1/H11) to reach Skukuza. After taking a break, we headed along the H4-1 towards the Lower Sabie Rest Camp. The drive along the Sabie River was great – lots of Elephants and other game coming to drink. Then we had the thrill of spotting a Leopard asleep in a tree. We continued along the Sabie River until we reached the H4-2 where we turned south towards the Crocodile Bridge Rest Camp. This was a first for us as we have never been in this part of Kruger. We took a short break at the Crocodile Bridge Rest Camp. It's located in the southeast corner of Kruger and it's very small but it does have a nice shop and gasoline.  When we left Crocodile Bridge, we went back north on the H4-2 but decided not to retrace our steps the entire way. Instead we choose to cut across the Park using the H5/S108/S116 (gravel roads). Again, new parts of the Park for us. We had the treat of seeing a Hyena with her two cubs. Then, another thrill…. driving through a burn area. We don’t know what started the brush fire but it was burning – sometimes on one side of the road and other times on both sides of the road. There were no huge flames as the main fire had ended but there were smoldering logs and lots of smoke. Once we reached the H3 – one of the main north/south roads in the Park – we had the pleasure of seeing a group of four Ground Southern Horn Bill. There were three adults and one of last year’s chicks.  Lastly, when we turned on the H1-1 to return to Pretoriouskop, there was a Spotted Eagle Owl with two chicks that were nesting in the rocks beneath a large tree. Click on the first image to begin.
