This is a White-backed Vulture. It's very common
throughout southern Africa. Like other types of vultures, the
White-backed Vulture searches for food by soaring high in the
air. Using its excellent eyesight, it looks for a freshly
killed animal. Before flying down to the kill, it circles
above to signal to others that there is a kill. It will then
fly down to the area and wait until the predators have had their
fill of the flesh. The vultures then undertake the "clean-up"
job of finishing the remains of the carcass.
