If you look carefully on this rooftop, you'll see a statute of a man watching over Simon Bolivar Square.

Simon Bolivar Square is the main square in Bogota.  Simon Bolivar was a Venezulean military and political leader who played a leading role in achieving independence from Spain in each of Colombia, Bolivia, Peru, Panama, Ecuador, and, of course, Venezuela.  The National Capitol serves as the home to the Congress of Colombia. 

In the southeast corner of Simon Bolivar Square is the Colegio Mayor de San Bartolome.  It's an educational facility founded by the Jesuits.

This is the main cathedral of Bogota and it faces Simon Bolivar Square.  It was built from 1807 through 1825.  It is the largest cathedral in Colombia.
