Abner has a nice fire going as we prepare to enjoy sundowners (evening cocktails) and snacks.  As in all deserts, it gets cold as the sun goes down.

This is Abner standing by the Wilderness Safaris jeep we used to traverse the area.

We made a quick stop by a small village, De Riet.  It was very quiet as most individuals living there are employed in tourism, including those that work at Damaraland Camp.

Hey, we've come across another group of Ostrich.

Oops, a desert hazard results in a flat tire that Abner quickly changed despite the heat.

A mother Elephant who is nursing her baby.

Amazing!  We've found a large group of Elephants - ten in total - known as "Rosie's Group".  These Elephants are desert-adapted and have learned how to survive in the Namib desert, one of the most arid places on earth.  All animals in this area survive by taking advantage of the early morning mists which occur when the cold Atlantic Ocean air hits the hot air of the Skeleton coast.  This airborne moisture settles as dew and it is consumed before it burns away in the heat.
