Here's one of the tree-covered sidewalks which flank either side of the roadway with the fountains in the center.  It's a lovely place for a stroll.

Here's a view of the numerous fountains which line Unirii Boulevard.  Under Nicolae Ceauşescu, ordinary citizens were forbidden from walking this avenue; only elite members of his party.

Here is a lovely clock which stands at the beginning of Unirii Boulevard.

This is the view from the outdoor terrace.  You are looking down Unirii Boulevard with its lovely fountains.  Nicolae Ceauşescu never gave any speeches from this terrace as the building wasn't complete when when he was overthown and killed.  However, this is the place Michael Jackson famously stood and said, "Hello Budapest!"  Too bad he didn't say "Bucharest"!!  (Wrong city, Michael).

This is one of two meeting halls that have been completed in this 1000+ room complex.

This is a decorative glass ceiling; can you believe? 

This massive staircase is made of Transylvanian marble.  Between 20,000 to 100,000 worked on construction of the Palace operating in three shifts.  Nicolae Ceauşescu wanted HIS monument to be completed as quickly as possible. 

This is the grand theatre in the Parliament Palance.  Dictator Nicolae Ceauşescu thought nothing of these outrageous expenses in a time when the everyday Romanian citizen was struggling to survive.

This is known at the Long Hallway.  Construction of this building began in 1984 and it has thousands of rooms but much of the Palace is still unfinished.  Some estimates say that 70% is unfinished.

We arranged to take a guided group tour of the Palace of the Parliament (once known as the Peoples Palace).  Today it is the seat of the Parliament of Romania.  It is the second largest administrative building in the world after The Pentagon.  Dictator Nicolae Ceauşescu ordered the construction of this megastructure.
