Today we decided to talk a walk to the Musikverein, Vienna's concert hall, to make sure we know how to walk to it tomorrow to attend the Vienna Boys Choir & Choirs of the World Peace Choral Festival.  It turned out to be a nice walk of not over 20 minutes.  The weather was nice and cool albeit a bit rainy but The Hilton provided a large umbrella we could share.  Also, Vienna’s tree-lined streets offer a safe refuge unless a huge storm comes about.  We did take a short detour but now know the direct route.  We also learned that the Hall will open at 10:00AM tomorrow.

Since we were in a different part of town, we also went to Karlsplatz.  There we saw the large St. Charles Church (again, in German:  Karlskirche).  In the early 18th century, Vienna was hit by the Black Plague (or Bubonic Plague).  Emperor Charles VI made a vow to build a church dedicated to St. Carlo Borromeo - revered for attending to Milanese plague victims in the 16th century and the Emperor’s namesake - if the city was saved. After the plague passed, the new church was officially announced in 1713 and finished in 1739.

Afterwards we returned to the hotel in the early afternoon.  We stopped by the Lounge for a cold Diet Coke.  We then decided to go out to see a channel of the Danube River.  It too was a brief walk and we enjoyed being along the river.  Sadly, there’s a lot of graffiti or “tagging” along the walls beside the river.  Oh well!

We returned back to the hotel about 4:00PM and then decided to catch up on a bit of paperwork and laundry till the evening happy hour at 6:00PM.  It was a good idea as it soon started raining after our return.
