We spent two nights at the Letaba Rest Camp (April 16 and April 17).  On April 16, we choose not to drive directly to Letaba but instead to take a leisurely drive towards the west near the Lower Sabie Rest Camp before turning north to Letaba.  It was a great decision because we came across a female Lion with cubs on our initial route; wow!  Then it kind of became an "Elephant/Zebra" day till we reached Letaba at about 4:30PM.  On April 17, we went to the south and west of the Camp which was new territory for us.  We enjoyed excellent gaming plus two "road blocks" created by huge male Elephants.  We had to follow one on a dirt road staying a good distance behind him until he turned into the bush near the junction with another dirt road.  The second encounter was on a paved road where we had to keep reversing the car as the male Elephant continued to approach.  At one point, the Elephant had five vehicles reversing to give him way.  Eventually, the male Elephant stopped and a park vehicle chose to pass him.  As that vehicle did so, the Elephant moved off the road and the rest of us were able to pass.  Whew, a couple of close encounters!  Click on the first image below to see the wildlife viewing we enjoyed.
