We took a quick trip to Bogota, Colombia in January 2017. It turned out to be a great break from our cold and dreary winter weather. In Bogota, we enjoyed very nice weather and lots of sunshine. The city sits in the center of Colombia in a high altitude bowl at 8,660 feet. It is surrounded by mountains that rise well over 10,000 feet. Yet the weather is temperate due to the country's proximity to the equator. At sea level, Colombia is a jungle.
We stayed in the Rosales area in Bogota at a beautiful Embassy Suites. From there we could walk to a variety of shops, restaurants and the famous "Zona T" - a lively, safe neighborhood in the north of the city - that's bustling all day and night. We also spent two days touring with a wonderful guide & driver (Andrea & Ernesto). They showed us some historic sites in town as well as Monserrate Hill which is 10,341 feet above sea level. Then on another day we drove outside of Bogota to visit the famous Salt Cathedral (see more details with those photographs)! Click on an image below to learn more about the places we visited.
