Stone Town is the old city and cultural heart of Zanzibar. It is a labrynth of winding alleys, bazaars and grand houses with amazing entry doors - a sign of wealth and status during the heyday of the old city. The newer portion of the city is known as Ng'ambo, Swahili for 'the other side'. Stone Town became a UNESCO heritage site in 2000. It is a vibrant area where past and present meet one another and it is called home by many of the island's inhabitants. It definitely is an amazing place! Click on the first image below.
